Summary

In New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc., et al. v. Bruen, the United States Supreme Court overturned a longstanding requirement under New York law that a “special need” must be shown in order to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. In response, the New York State Legislature imposed new restrictions on obtaining a pistol permit and passed additional related legislation. This program will focus on the Supreme Court decision, the new legislation, and the current process for pistol permit approvals in Monroe County.
