Summary

Professor Vin Bonventre will deliver his annual Supreme Court update. As customary, he will highlight the patterns in the voting records of the Justices and in the decisional record of the Court as a whole, and he will survey the term’s major decisions. This year, in addition to analyzing the ideological and jurisprudential profiles of the Justices and the Court itself, he will explore the emerging signs of cracks in the Court’s 6-3 partisan divide—especially regarding Justice Barrett’s occasional siding with the political liberals, but also Justices Thomas’s and Alito’s increasingly stringent political conservativism, and the continuing ideological moderating of Chief Justice Roberts.
